Hippocrates, the father of medicine, highly appreciated olive oil and had conducted many studies on it, which propose more than 60 medical and pharmaceutical uses of olive oil. These include skin diseases, muscle pains, treatment of the ulcer and cholera, gum infections, insomnia, nausea, fever and stomach pains.
In Asclepius’s sanctuary, olive oil was used to make special creams and healing remedies.
The Spartan warriors used olive oil not only as food but also as a healing agent for their wounds after the battle.
