Olive oil, pure or scented, was highly associated with burial ceremonies.

Women used to wash the body of the dead with water and wine and then they would apply olive oil on it, pure or scented. All these along with wine, honey and other products were offered to the tombs as gifts to the deceased. It is worth noticing that Priam, the king of Troy, smeared a mixture of olive oil and rose extract on the dead body of Hector.
